According to Hindu beliefs, Mars is said to be the son of Earth and is called Bhumi-Putra. He is the God of courage, war, dispute and distraction. Mars is a dry fiery planet, masculine by nature and has a separative tendency. If mars is weak and afflicted in either of the horoscopes of the bride and the groom, there will be rash and lose temper quickly. The native will be foolhardy and also quarrelsome. If Mars (Mangal) is placed in the first, second, fourth, seventh, eighth, or twelfth house in “lagna kundali” then Mangalik Dosha is present in the horoscope. According to some ancient scriptures Mangalik Dosha should be considered from Moon, Venus and seventh Lord as well as from Lagna. Generally, Mangalik Dosha is considered only from the position of Lagna and the Moon in the birth chart and is not considered from the second house. Manglik Dosha effects the married life of a person in many ways. It creates delays, cheating, hurdles and obstacles in getting married. After marriage there is a physical, mental or financial hardship for one of the partners or both the partners. It causes Mutual disputes, allegation and counter-allegation and may even lead to the disintegration of the marriage. If the dosha is pronounced, one of the partners may remain ill or there may be the untimely death of either one or both the partner. If the malefic planet placed in the seventh house and tenth house also occur marital problem. In spite of this, one should not be scared of mangalik dosha because when the dosha is similar, it gets nullified and the couple leads a happy married life.

- In the horoscope of both the bride and the groom, if mars are placed in the second, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth house from the lagna, moon, venus, then due to equality Mangalik dosha is nullified.
- If in one person’s horoscope Mars is placed in the first, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth houses and in the other person’s horoscope Saturn is placed in one of these houses then Mangalik dosha is not there.
- If mars are in the first, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth houses conjoined or aspected by Moon, Jupiter or Mercury then one should not consider under mangal dosha.
- If mars are in the first, second, fourth, eighth or twelfth house in a moveable sign then it is not malefic otherwise. It is extremely harmful.
- It is considered that if a Manglik person marries another manglik person then the mangalik dosha gets cancelled and has no bad effects.
Remedies to reduce the intensity of mangal dosha
- Chanting mantra of mars or afflicted planet.
- Yantra puja of mars or afflicted planet.
- Fasting(vratta) of concern planet.
- Wear concern gems.
- Other remedies TOTKA such as Vishnu vivah, ghata vivah or Kumbha vivah.
However as astrological classics, Mangala Dosha cannot be cancelled entirely, only its intensity can be reduced under special circumstance Mangal dosha is automatically nullified or reduced to a minimum because there is a substantial difference in the level of Mangal Dosha compatibility both of the horoscope so it is advisable to consult a learned astrologer before proceeding to marriage.
